The short version: Onya is free, it does what this site says it does, and if it stops being useful you can uninstall it and take your data with you. The rest of this page is the long version.

Who these terms are between

Onya is operated by Mahdi Nejad. These terms are an agreement between us and the Slack workspace that installs Onya, together with everyone in that workspace who uses it. Installing the app means accepting them. If you don't accept them, don't install it.

Whoever installs Onya confirms they're allowed to add apps to that workspace and to agree to these terms on its behalf.

What Onya does

Onya is a peer recognition app for Slack. Everyone in the workspace gets a daily allowance of onyas to give teammates, either by mentioning them with the workspace's chosen emoji or by reacting with it, and a leaderboard shows who has been recognised. Workspace admins choose the emoji, the daily limit and the timezone the allowance resets in. They can also switch on rewards, where people spend the onyas they've received on a catalogue those admins put together.

Rewards belong to your workspace

If your workspace switches rewards on, the rewards are its own. It decides what each item is, what it costs in onyas, and who actually hands it over. Onya records that someone redeemed an item and announces it in Slack. It doesn't supply the reward, hold anything of value, or take any part in what the reward turns out to be, and it isn't a party to it. If something redeemed never arrives, that's between you and your workspace.

Redemptions happen immediately and can't be reversed - onyas spent are spent, and Onya has no refund to give. Set the catalogue up with that in mind.

What it costs

Nothing. There is no paid tier, no per-seat charge and no trial that expires. If that ever changes we'll give reasonable notice first, and no workspace will be charged for something it already installed for free without agreeing to it.

Using it sensibly

Onya is a tool for recognising colleagues. Don't use it to harass anyone, don't try to break it or get at data belonging to other workspaces, don't attempt to overwhelm it with automated traffic, and don't resell it or pass it off as your own. Your use of Slack is also governed by Slack's own terms, which are between you and Slack.

You're responsible for how the people in your workspace use Onya.

Availability

Onya is provided as it is, without a service level agreement or an uptime guarantee. We run it carefully and back it up nightly, but it may be unavailable at times, whether for maintenance, a failure at one of the services it depends on, or reasons outside our control.

Changes and shutdown

We may change how Onya works, add features or remove them. If we ever decide to shut it down, we'll give reasonable notice to installed workspaces first so you can export or record anything you want to keep. You can uninstall at any time, for any reason, without telling us.

Your data

What Onya stores, what it doesn't, and how to have data removed are all set out on the privacy page, which forms part of these terms. In short: no message content, no profile information, and everything is deleted after uninstall.

Warranties

To the extent the law allows, Onya is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty that it's fit for a particular purpose or will run without interruption or error.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of Onya, including lost profits, lost opportunities or lost data. Where liability cannot be excluded, it's limited to supplying the service again.

Onya is free, so please size your reliance on it accordingly. It is a way of saying thanks to colleagues, not a system of record.

Ending it

You end these terms by uninstalling Onya from your workspace. We may suspend or end access for a workspace that breaks these terms, that we're legally required to cut off, or that is putting the service at risk for everyone else. Uninstalling triggers the deletion described on the privacy page.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the updated version appears on this page with a new date at the top. Continuing to use Onya after that means accepting the change. For anything significant we'll try to give notice in advance.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the courts of Victoria have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
